a little guilt

today, instead of going running on my lunch break, i went to the mall where i tried on a pair of trousers. this helped me realize i am between sizes and that i need to go running more often to be able to fit into a size. which is exactly the thing i chose to not do today and go to the mall instead. hopefully i can talk aaron into going running tomorrow to make it up.

happy friday.

foreign relations

Here's a sample of the oddities Aaron and I have due to the fact that he's not a U.S. Citizen. The following texting conversation took place this morning:

Aaron: What type of visa do I have?

Aimee: Wells Fargo, Platinum.

Aaron: No, what type of immigration visa do I have and when does it expire?

Nice. I'm really looking forward to becoming friends with another couple who had the same experience as us because, at times, our marriage and naturalization process have been very bizzare.

MAX

Last night we saw Where the Wild Things Are (thank you, San Diego Blood Bank) with some friends of ours and two of their kids. We had heard mixed reivews, but Aaron was not to be deterred so we all went anyway. Verdict? A good movie. Visually stunning and creative. It was very interesting to see life through a child's mind and imagination. A kids movie? Not so much. One of the children said it was good, but she didn't want to see it again because it was sad and the other kid was very touched by the sad emotional parts. It didn't scare them, but it is not a movie for children. I think it is best for the adults who grew up reading it and want to relive part of their childhood.

I know many of you have kids so keep this in mind if you are trying to decide who should see it.

a new holiday

November 10th is officially UP day in our household. That will be the best Tuesday ever. I think I might have to watch all the Dug scenes first and then start the movie from the beginning.

Pumpking Patch

Much to my delight, we went to a pumpkin patch this weekend. Being the only adults there with out a child in tow, I realized Aaron humors me quite a bit. The patch had a petting zoo and next to the animals you could pet were animals you shouldn't pet, according to the sign. Since many children cannot read I'm not sure why they would do this, other than they desire a lawsuit.

They had two emus in a pen. I am not a fan. The fence only went to the top of their bodies so their long necks could reach over the fence. Not a good idea. They had piercing looks and very quickly Aaron and I were terrified and slowly walked away. I was afraid to turn my back to them for fear of this.
According to Wikipedia, "They are also known for violent behavior towards humans, and may attack without notice". Perfect for a petting zoo...

St. Barb Pics

I've been lazy lately and going on strike against things I should do, but don't want to do. I've been doing the things I have to do, but ignoring the non-imminent things. Like dying my hair and blogging. I'm back.
Here are some snaps of our weekend in Santa Barbara. Aaron loved it, but somehow I felt like I still lived there and was not on vacation. The highlight of my trip? Brophy Brothers. After all these years it is still my favorite restaurant.
We cruised around on bikes for a few hours and hit all the major beaches. Here is me on the bike that only hours later a runner would literally knock me off of. Yes, he ran into me, folks. While wiping off the dirt I had to quickly prevent Aaron from coming to fisticuffs with the man.
We rode out to the pier. I can't believe I used to canoe out to the tiny green buoy in the middle of us. I was so buff when I was on an outrigger canoeing team!
My favorite hidden gem beach in SB.
A trip to the mission would not be complete without posing as a friar.
I still have not mustered the energy to blog about our trip home and short lived detour on Hwy 1, but we were so bored while sitting in traffic that Aaron's orange peel became a man and put on a show for us. Enough said.

kids size = less guilt

Oh how I love you, Starbucks hot chocolate. I really, really love you. I love that you represent fall and I've had two so far this season. But, what do I love most about your hot chocolate? The kids size. This option is not very noticable on the menu, so I over looked it for years, but now it is my go to. The price hovers around a buck, it comes in a petite 8 oz size which lessens my guilt and sugar intake, and the baristas usually lower the temperature of the milk for kiddos who don't want to burn their tongue. Me. It's the baby one on the left in this picture and my perfect treat for a crisp fall night.
